#719 Dallas Mavericks +4 over Los Angeles Lakers 9:35 PM CT

The Lakers and Mavericks are next to each other in the Western Conference standings, currently the final two teams that would be in the playoff field. With a narrow win last night the Lakers are barely posting a positive average scoring differential on the season while the Mavericks are +2.5 on average. Dallas is just 2-7 on the road but this opportunity should be alluring in favorable scheduling spot.

The Lakers out-shot Indiana by more than 11 percent last night but had to survive a tight finish while currently Los Angeles mostly employs just an eight-man rotation. Dallas won in Houston on Wednesday as while the Mavericks are 2-7 on the road they are 2-1 in the past three road games. They lost by one point in Los Angeles on Halloween night and the Lakers will have a very hard time matching the numbers from that contest, shooting 59 percent from 3-point range. Dallas currently rates as the stronger team in offensive and defensive efficiency this season with a massive edge on offense and Dallas has played its best vs. the best, going 3-1 vs. the league’s top 10, a distinction the Lakers aren’t quite holding however.

#710 Dallas Mavericks +2 over Miami Heat 7:35 PM CT

In short order Miami has climbed from out of the playoffs to the #4 seed in the Eastern Conference playoff picture with a 10-4 run since late December. This could be a dangerous game following a narrow Saturday win over surging Charlotte and with a road date in Cleveland up next, with the Cavaliers the next team ahead of the Heat in the standings and with obviously some history between the players and coaches.

Dallas had a brutal 2-14 start to the season before playing pretty well in late November and December. The Mavericks are 1-6 in the past seven games however but in that run there is an overtime loss and two other defeats by three and two points, with both of those misses at Denver. It has been a tough run in the schedule with playoff teams in the past six games despite mostly competitive games and the lone win was an emphatic win over the Wizards. Dallas is 10-17 S/U at home and actually 9-9 S/U the past 18 home dates while riding a 10-8 ATS run in those games.

The Heat are 4-6 ATS the last 10 games as a road favorite and Miami’s overall schedule rates as one of the weakest in the NBA. Dallas has as many top 10 wins as Miami despite the contrast in stature between the teams in the standings. The host has won four of the last five in this series and Dallas is 18-11 ATS vs. winning teams this season including 8-4 ATS in home games vs. those quality teams.

#518 Dallas Mavericks -2.5 over Denver Nuggets 7:35 PM CT

Denver is looking like a Western Conference playoff threat, actually leading the Northwest Division at 13-9 to sit just ahead of Minnesota and Portland for the moment. The Nuggets are just 5-4 in the last nine games however and the last four wins have come against some of the league’s worst teams in the Lakers, Bulls, Grizzlies, and Kings and only Saturday’s win over the Lakers came by more than eight points.

At 6-17 Dallas might appear to be one of the worst teams in the NBA but the Mavericks have four wins in the past seven games including beating the Milwaukee and Oklahoma City. Despite being 13-9 Denver’s average scoring differential is just +0.6 while Dallas has an average scoring differential of just -3.9 per game despite being 11 games below .500. Denver is just 3-7 S/U and 2-8 ATS on the road this season for a huge disparity for a team that benefits from a natural home court edge playing at altitude. Dallas is actually a stronger defensive efficiency team in this matchup and the home team has won six of the last eight meetings between these teams.

Coming off a prominent home win over the Lakers and now heading out on a road trip makes this a less than ideal spot for the Nuggets while Dallas has been formidable in recent home games with wins and narrow losses against quality teams.  Over the last five games Dallas has allowed just 96.2 points per game while Denver has allowed 106.6 points per game with Dallas +6.2 in scoring while going 3-2 and Denver -6.2 in net points per game despite going 3-2 in that span.
