#970 Kansas City Royals (Wacha) -105 over Detroit Tigers (Anderson) 6:15 PM CT
The Royals have put together a surprising six-game winning streak with the starting pitching providing strong turns in the rotation and the bullpen that has been a problem all season finding its best stretch of the season. Michael Wacha was an All-Star and the veteran right-hander continues to post solid results including a 2.97 ERA since the break. Detroit remains in the AL wild card hunt but the boost right after the trade deadline appears to have dissipated with a 1-6 run since August 14. Detroit pitching has allowed at least four runs in nine of the team’s past 10 games and the Detroit bullpen has a 5.63 ERA in the past five games. Drew Anderson is getting an opportunity to start after spending most of the season in the bullpen and his 10.3 K/9 for the season hasn’t held up in a starting role with that rate down to 6.4 in his three August starting efforts. In the past five games the Royals are batting .325 with 7.3 runs per nine compared to Detroit batting .231 with 3.8 runs per nine. Kansas City won 5-2 last night with three of four Detroit pitchers allowing runs and the unlikely late season surge from the Royals may continue. Kansas City is 34-30 at Kauffman Stadium this season while 22-44 in road games for an extreme disparity and Detroit’s rise as an unlikely playoff team after the Tarik Skubal trade appears to be fading back to reality.
