#906 Milwaukee Brewers (Woodruff) -125 over New York Mets (Senga) 7:10 PM CT
The Brewers weren’t aggressive in adding a starter at the trade deadline as Brandon Woodruff had recently returned. In five starts Woodruff has provided a fantastic boost to the pitching staff and gives more credibility to the current best team in baseball with Milwaukee on a 45-16 run. Woodruff has an 11.8 K/9 and a 2.22 ERA and when healthy he has been one of the NL’s better pitchers in his career while holding a 2.81 ERA in over 350 innings in Milwaukee. The Mets are 1-8 in the past nine games to fall behind the Phillies in the NL East while sinking closer to the edge of the wild card picture. New York did take two of three hosting Milwaukee to start July, but the Mets are six games below .500 on the road this season and since mid-June New York is 18-28 as team has performed poorly midseason despite still being 11 games above .500 overall with a great April providing a cushion. Kodai Senga has a 2.31 ERA but his FIP is 3.89 and a very high walk rate is concerning in his numbers with a 4.4 BB/9. Senga hasn’t had a quality start since early June as he has pitched as the same level in four starts since missing a few weeks on the IL. This will be Senga’s first start at American Family Field and the Brewers are 13-4 in the past 17 home games. In the past 10 games the Mets have hit .205 with 4.0 runs per nine while the Brewers have hit .329 with 7.8 runs per nine. Milwaukee has also gone 17-7 vs. the NL East this season.
