#914 Los Angeles Angels (Kikuchi) -120 over Boston Red Sox (Fitts) 3:07 PM CT

Boston is facing a ninth straight road game on the west coast today, still working through the backdrop of the Rafael Devers trade and now going just 2-5 in the past seven games since winning the opening game of the road trip. Boston is only one game below .500 and still right in the AL wild card picture filled with mediocrity, the Red Sox are just 2.5 games out of the final spot. The Angels are also just 2.5 games out of that spot however, even with far worse season scoring numbers than the Red Sox. Los Angeles is playing with some fire however as Mike Trout is healthy and some young stars are stepping up with the Angels 12-8 in the past 20 games after a walk-off win last night led by 22-year-old rookie Christian Moore.  Yusei Kikuchi has pitched much better than his 2-6 record suggests with a 3.01 ERA and decent strikeout numbers, while the home run issues that plagued him early in his MLB career have subsided. Since May 1 Kikuchi has a 2.31 ERA with only two losses and a 9.1 K/9. Los Angeles pitching has allowed three or fewer runs in six of the past nine games and the bullpen has a 1.93 ERA in the past five games. Boston has decent splits vs. lefties this season but a losing record vs. left-handed starters while Devers had a .869 OPS vs. southpaws to contribute significantly to Boston’s season figures. The Red Sox have a 1.57 bullpen WHIP in the past five games and Richard Fitts has just over 41 MLB innings to his name. He had some success for Boston last September but in five starts in 2025 he has a 4.71 ERA with a 5.89 FIP and has allowed five home runs without picking up a win in five starts. That includes getting hit hard by the Angels in early June before being sent back down to AAA. The Angels should have the momentum to complete this series sweep as the team looks to get back to .500.
