#962 Cleveland Guardians (Bibee) -115 over Toronto Blue Jays (Gausman) 12:10 PM CT

Kevin Gausman has a strong track record as a reliable starter in recent years but some of the inconsistency he had early in his career has manifested of late, as he has allowed three or more runs in eight of his last 11 starts, including allowing six or more runs three times. He did deliver a strong start vs. Cleveland at home in May but he has a 4.66 ERA on the road and a 7.65 ERA in June. Cleveland’s superior bullpen stood out last night as the Guardians kept damage to a minimum in a few key scoring chances for the Blue Jays as five relievers contributed to a 5-4 win in 10-innings last night. Toronto used four relievers last night and the Blue Jays are just 4-7 in the past 11 games while only 1-4 in the past five road games. The Guardians are 33-23 vs. right-handed starters while Toronto is just 31-29 in those opportunities vs. right-handers. Tanner Bibee has taken seven losses this season, but he has a 3.28 ERA in his past 11 starts to rebound after some early season inconsistency. Bibee has low walk and home run rates and owns a 2.50 ERA this season at Progressive Field. Cleveland pitching has allowed two or fewer runs in five of the past eight games while Toronto has allowed at least four runs in seven of the past nine games, with the Guardians allowing more than a half-run less than the Blue Jays on average this season. With Gausman not pitching up to his reputation recently, and Cleveland’s great track record in finishing out close and extra-inning games, Bibee and Cleveland are worth supporting to win this series in an early game Thursday.
