#952 Cincinnati Reds (Littell) -125 over St. Louis Cardinals (Liberatore) 5:40 PM CT

The Cardinals won 4-1 on Thursday afternoon hosting Pittsburgh, coming back from an early deficit with a big 7th inning. St. Louis had only seven hits and used three relievers to split four games with the Pirates on a short home stand. The Cardinals are still just 18-30 since July 1, and just 15-23 since the All-Star Break. St. Louis is back on the road Friday where the Cardinals are 29-37 this season. Cincinnati had an off-day Thursday and while the Reds are only 2.5 games above the Cardinals and playoff longshots, the recent trajectory has been stronger with a 39-34 record since early June. The Reds are 36-29 at home and the off day can help shake off a tough west coast road trip that ended with three losses in a row at Dodger Stadium. Zack Littell was a minor addition for Cincinnati at the trade deadline as the team was unwilling to make a big splash, and the 29-year-old has posted a second straight solid season. He has a 3.92 ERA in four starts with Cincinnati including a quality start in his only home outing. Left-hander Matthew Liberatore has allowed three or more runs in five straight starts and last posted a quality start on June 29. The Reds lack great season splits vs. left-handed pitching, but the Cardinals are batting just .166 in the past five games vs. right-handers to average only 2.3 runs per nine. Liberatore is less likely than Littell to last deep into this game and the Reds bullpen has done its job of late with solid recent splits.
