#961/962 OVER 8 Baltimore Orioles (Bassitt) at Toronto Blue Jays (Scherzer) 6:07 PM CT

The past six meetings between the Orioles and Blue Jays have all reached at least 10 runs with a combined 75 runs scored in seven games in this series on the season. The Orioles have slipped to the bottom of the AL East after a brief run at wild card contention having lost seven of the team’s past nine games. Baltimore did score 20 runs in winning two of three hosting Cleveland earlier this week and Max Scherzer has a 6.03 ERA this season with a 6.9 K/9, as he doesn’t resemble a pitcher with his past credentials. Chris Bassitt has plenty of familiarity pitching at the Rogers Centre as he pitched for the Blue Jays the previous three seasons, but Bassitt is also on pace for a career-worst season with a 4.96 ERA and a 6.4 K/9. Bassitt has allowed 102 hits in just over 85 innings of work this season. This is the first game back at home for the Blue Jays after a 5-4 road trip including playing in Sacramento earlier this week but there is great urgency for Toronto. A huge letdown season after the World Series run is in progress but at 73-74, Toronto is only one game out of the final AL wild card spot as a redemptive late season run is possible. Toronto has scored at least four runs in seven of the team’s past 10 games and while both bullpens have had some recent success, short starting efforts are possible tonight and the ‘over’ run in this division rivalry may continue.
