#927 Seattle Mariners (Hancock) -130 over Colorado Rockies (Hudson) 7:40 PM CT

Emerson Hancock owns a career 6.41 ERA over six starts but the 6th pick in the 2020 draft has terrific command over multiple pitches and projects to be a stable option on the mound for the Mariners, even while skipping AAA entirely. Seattle has some momentum with three straight wins and the pitching staff has allowed four or fewer runs in seven consecutive games. Seattle has a 2.93 bullpen ERA for the season in great contrast to Colorado’s 5.56 ERA. Any player’s first start at Coor’s Field warrants some caution but Hancock is matched against Dakota Hudson who has a 5.19 career ERA in Denver. Hudson had a 5.06 FIP last season in his 18 appearances for the Cardinals and even is amazing 2019 season can be looked at with skepticism as he had as 4.93 FIP compared with a 3.35 ERA. Hudson is 0-3 in his first season with the Rockies featuring very few strikeouts and while his groundball tendencies could work favorably in Denver over time, he hasn’t proven that yet, and the bullpen support has been very poor so far this season. Colorado is only hitting .233 with 3.5 runs per nine at home this season and this ballpark should provide a significant boost to the pedestrian numbers for the Seattle offense, mostly playing in a clear pitching home ballpark. Seattle won all three meetings between these teams last season and the 4-15 Rockies look likely to be one of the very worst teams in MLB this season.
