#922 Chicago White Sox (Toussaint) +115 over Detroit Tigers (Rodriguez) 7:10 PM CT

A lot of negative headlines came out of the southside of Chicago at the trade deadline as a disappointing White Sox team dealt away several players and recently had a front office shake-up. At 53-81 it has been miserable season, but Chicago has suddenly shown a little life at the plate, going 4-4 in the past eight games while scoring four or more runs in six of those games. Three wins in that span came against Seattle and Baltimore while Touiki Toussaint has provided several solid outings this season despite his marginal overall numbers. 44 walks in fewer than 60 innings have been the challenge for Toussaint, but he had five scoreless innings last weekend and overall, he has decent numbers at home with a 4.03 ERA this season. Chicago has been a more productive offense vs. left-handers scoring 4.6 runs per nine this season while in the past 10 games Chicago is batting .295 with 4.7 runs per nine vs. lefties. The two seasons for Eduardo Rodriguez in Detroit have been forgettable with his most notable experience perhaps being his refusal to agree to be traded out of Detroit. Rodriguez has a 3.21 ERA this season but a much higher xFIP and his ERA since the All-Star break is 4.11. He has allowed four or more runs in three of his last six starts and he won’t get a lot of help from the Tigers in the bullpen with Detroit relievers holding a 7.34 ERA in the past 10 games. Detroit was also one of eight teams that had to play yesterday, and it was a taxing 10-inning result to avoid a four-game sweep hosting the Yankees. Four top relievers threw yesterday for Detroit including Jason Foley and Tyler Holton pitching each of the past two days. Detroit’s Pythagorean record is just 54-80 as this team has overachieved relative to its scoring numbers that are nearly identical to Chicago’s and the White Sox have won four of seven head-to-head this season while +7 in scoring. Detroit has not topped four runs in eight straight games and 12 of the past 14 games, as while Rodriguez will get some attention as a quality starter, Detroit is hard to justify as a road favorite in this pairing.
