Sacramento and New Orleans are both 0-4 this season with poor defensive scoring results. Neither offense has been able to produce consistently however as these teams may not be able to take advantage of the opportunity. The Kings have an average scoring differential of nearly -18 points per game for a brutal opening run, but the schedule has been difficult. These teams are two of the worst outside shooting teams in the NBA in the early sample size with the Kings at 30 percent and the Pelicans are 29 percent beyond the arc. New Orleans has played close games with three losses by six or fewer points including an overtime result that boosts the overall scoring pace for the Pelicans so far. In the last home game New Orleans managed only 91 points. In the small early season sample the Pelicans have allowed 30 free throws per game for an average that is sure to go down over time while turnovers haven’t been a significant problem for either side so far as easy fast break points off turnovers should be rare in this matchup and both teams are in the middle of the pack in extra scoring chances per game so far this season. The current New Orleans possessions per game ranking looks a bit inflated due to the 276 point overtime game with Denver where the Pelicans shot 51 percent and these teams that are looking for win #1 could see the scoring stall and the defensive numbers find a bit of improvement tonight.
