#140 Virginia Tech -1 over Wake Forest 2:30 PM CT

Brent Pry’s future at Virginia Tech can be doubted, now 5-12 in a season and a half with the Hokies, but after a tough start to the season there have been some encouraging signs for this year’s team. After losing to Purdue, Virginia Tech switched from Grant Wells to Kyron Drones as quarterback and while the passing numbers haven’t received much of a bump, Virginia Tech is posting strong rushing numbers with the mobility of Drones a big factor in that success. Against Marshall the Hokies had 184 rushing yards, in the win against Pitt they had 199 rushing yards, and last week they had 209 rushing yards against Florida State. Wake Forest enters this game off back-to-back losses averaging fewer than 23 points per game vs. FBS foes. Last week it looked like they played Clemson tough in a 17-12 loss, but they had only 239 yards of offense and scored with just over a minute to go to create the close final score. Over the past two games Wake Forest has allowed more than 350 yards rushing on nearly 5.0 yards per carry as this could be a favorable matchup for the Virginia Tech offense. Wake Forest quarterback Mitch Griffis has four interceptions in his past three games and has been sacked 22 times this season as it has been a significant downgrade compared to the Demon Deacons under Sam Hartman. While this isn’t a Frank Beamer defense of years past, Virginia Tech has averaged 2.5 sacks per game and is 2nd in the nation in fewest passing yards per game allowed, while allowing a full yard less per pass attempt compared to Wake Forest.  The Demon Deacons last won in Blacksburg in 1983 and Wake Forest has lost four straight ACC road games while going 6-12 SU in ACC road games since 2019.
