#156 Miami OH -2 over Western Michigan 2:30 PM

Two seasons ago Miami snapped an eight-game slide in this series, a pairing that dates all the way back to 1936. That result was in Kalamazoo, as the Redhawks haven’t had a home win vs. the Broncos since 2001. Both squads are 3-0 in league play as this is a key mid-season game in the MAC race, with no divisions this season and Buffalo also sitting at 3-0 in the current standings. Western Michigan incredibly has allowed only 16 combined points in MAC play, and that includes a win over preseason favorite Toledo. Lance Taylor’s third season with the program is on pace to provide a second straight season of improvement after a 6-7 bowl season finish last year. In three road games, the Broncos scored only 27 points combined, however, while the lone MAC road win came against a struggling 0-7 UMass squad returning to the conference. Western Michigan was outrushed by 101 yards in the upset over Toledo, providing a comeback from being down 13-0 to win in the final minute thanks to hitting one big 43-yard pass play. Miami’s Dequan Finn is a former MAC player of the year and the Redhawks have the more reliable rushing attack as well, with a 4.3 to 3.7 edge in per carry average. Both teams have solid run defense numbers and are reliant on running the ball but the passing game for Miami has been more consistent. Miami’s only home loss came in tight finish with a 6-1 UNLV team and the Redhawks had 44 points in last week’s MAC home opener. That was a 37-14 game in the 4th quarter before Eastern Michigan posted a few late scores to make the final score closer than most of the game ever was. Miami had a 295-60 edge in rushing last week as the ground attack can control this game for the Redhawks and Western Michigan looks a bit overvalued coming off a 42-0 win over Ball State.
