#120 Old Dominion +14 over Wake Forest 11 AM CT

Wake Forest was one of the top scoring teams in the ACC last season averaging 37 points per game but Sam Hartman is no longer with the team. Mitch Griffis has decent numbers so far as the Demon Deacons are 2-0 with 37 and 36 points scored but they faced an FCS team and one of the lesser power 5 squads. Wake Forest has allowed 37 points in two games and last week’s 16-point win over Vanderbilt was misleading with a 3-1 turnover edge while only +61 in yards, with that advantage built on a late 73-yard field goal drive. Wake Forest scored on a fumble return touchdown just before halftime in a huge swing play as well. Old Dominion played close with Virginia Tech in the opener despite losing by 19, only -73 in yardage and down just six late in the 3rd quarter despite being -3 in turnovers. Last week’s Sun Belt opener was a win for Old Dominion with efficient passing numbers from Grant Wilson, leading six scoring drives of at least 55 yards and with the offense showing big play potential. Last season Old Dominion lost by just two against Virginia and beat Virginia Tech in its ACC opportunities and while the Monarchs finished just 3-9, seven losses came by 14 or fewer points. Wake Forest has the ACC opener on deck and under Dave Clawson the Demon Deacons have been a double-digit road favorite only three times. Old Dominion has five S/U wins in its last nine games as a home underdog including a few substantial upsets and the Monarchs should deliver a competitive performance in this early game Saturday.
