#976 Houston Astros (Gusto) -115 over Detroit Tigers (Olson) 7:10 PM CT

The Tigers have had a great start to the season at 18-11 but Detroit fell to 5-8 in road games with an 8-5 defeat last night to open this series in Houston. The Astros used five relievers last night, but four of those five appearances were rather short outings as only Bryan King and Steven Okert might be unavailable tonight. Detroit is 6-0 vs. the teams with the worst two records in the American League so far to boost the April record as the current pace isn’t likely sustainable. Reese Olson is 3-1 this season in five starts for the Tigers but he has been brilliant at Comerica Park and has allowed eight runs in nine road innings. Against right-handed pitching the Astros are batting .254 in the past 10 games while the Tigers are batting just .215 despite a strong recent record for Detroit. Rookie Ryan Gusto has been terrific so far for Houston with a 9.1 K/9 and a 1.6 BB/9, featuring a 2.71 FIP in nearly 23 innings of work. After starting the year in the bullpen Gusto has been just fine in the move to a starting role. Houston is 10-6 at home this season and while Detroit has the second best run differential in the AL at this point in the season, Tigers pitching has allowed five or more runs nine of 13 road games this season. Houston should be a threat to take the second game in this series and extending the contrasting home/road splits for these teams.
