#921/922 UNDER 8.5 St. Louis Cardinals (Liberatore) at Cleveland Guardians (Allen) 11:05 AM CT

After nearly being no-hit on Friday, the Guardians did post six runs Saturday, but it wasn’t enough as the Cleveland bullpen took a rare defeat. All six Cleveland runs came in one big inning while five runs for St. Louis came in one-inning. There were only six hits with runners in scoring position between these teams on Saturday despite a final score with 15 runs. A lefty-lefty draw Sunday could take a toll on both lineups Sunday. Both teams have losing records vs. left-handed starters on the season including Cleveland being just 7-15. Overall this season St. Louis has hit .237 and Cleveland .223 vs. southpaw pitching, and the recent splits are even worse. In the past 10 games vs. left-handers the Guardians have hit .198 with 2.7 runs per nine, while St. Louis has hit .164 with 2.3 runs per nine. Cleveland’s bullpen lacks strong recent splits, but this unit has a good long term track record while the St. Louis bullpen has produced one of its top stretches of the season in recent weeks to climb right back in the NL Central race. Progressive Field leans ‘under’ on the season with fewer than 8.0 runs per game on average and mild conditions with a slight wind blowing in is in the forecast Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals have been a boom-or-bust lineup of late, and Logan Allen has thrown well in recent weeks with a 3.71 ERA in his last three starts. Matthew Liberatore has allowed two or fewer runs in 10 of his last 13 starts and faces a Guardians lineup that has topped four runs just three times in the past 10 games.
