#913 Kansas City Royals (Kolek) +120 over Cleveland Guardians (Williams) 6:15 PM CT

Gavin Williams has 10 wins and a 3.17 ERA to appear to be one of the top starters for the Guardians. Williams has a 4.59 FIP however, and he has struggled greatly with walks this season, with a 4.5 BB/9. Williams has stranded 83 percent of his baserunners to limit the damage, but he isn’t likely to be so fortunate over the long haul. Kansas City is 2-0 against Williams this season and the Royals will look to split a key four-game series after getting a narrow win last night. Despite the tight 4-3 final Kansas City had twice as many at-bats with runners in scoring position last night in a game where both teams emptied their bullpens. The recent return of Bobby Witt and Jonathan India makes the Kansas City offense much more formidable. Stephen Kolek has provided two useful starts for the Royals after pitching most of the season with the Padres. In his two starts with Kansas City he has allowed just three runs and the Royals are 2-0. Kolek has done a great job of limiting home runs this season and he has an over 50 percent groundball rate to make up for limited strikeout potential. The Royals are just a half-game behind Cleveland in the wild card race and Kansas City is 29 runs superior to Cleveland in run differential on the season. The Royals have featured the stronger bullpen, including a 1.96 ERA in the past five games and the season bullpen results for the Guardians include the strong results from Emmanuel Clase and Luis Ortiz, who aren’t with the team right now.
