#957 Toronto Blue Jays (Soriano) -105 over Cleveland Guardians (Bibee) 12:10 PM CT

The Blue Jays are just 1.5 games out of the final wild card spot in the American League, looking to chase down Cleveland after these teams have split the past two days. Toronto has scored 31 runs in the past five games on a 4-1 run and the Blue Jays are 18-12 since August 1, still playing with a chance to return to the playoffs following last season’s World Series run. Toronto has featured a dramatic bullpen edge when comparing these teams in the recent splits with a 3.18 ERA compared to a 5.17 ERA for Cleveland in the past five games. Jose Soriano hasn’t pitched as well as he did with the Angels in five starts with Toronto, but this should be a favorable matchup as four of his five starts with the Blue Jays have come against top contenders. His last start in Cleveland featured six shutout innings and the Guardians remain one of the lesser offensive teams in baseball with the third fewest home runs in MLB since August 1. Cleveland has scored just 3.9 runs per nine in the past five games vs. right-handed pitching as well. Tanner Bibee has a FIP nearly a run higher than his modest ERA and he is on pace for a career worst K/9. He has had some tough luck to go 5-14 in decisions, but he has been consistently hittable, allowing three or more runs in 13 different starts this season. Bibee hasn’t been much stronger at home than in his road innings and his ERA is 4.20 in August. After lopsided results the past two days, Toronto should have the upper hand in Thursday’s day game.
