Nelly’s is on a 5-1 run in MLB totals – don’t miss tonight’s over/under pick:

Nelly’s Baseball

#911/912 UNDER 8.5 Texas Rangers (Leiter) at Boston Red Sox (Gray) 6:10 PM CT

Texas and Boston have both scored fewer than 4.0 runs per nine on average over the past 10 games vs. right-handed pitching. Both bullpens have been excellent in that stretch as well with Texas sporting a 2.21 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP while Boston has been solid as well with a 2.97 ERA the past 10 games. Jack Leiter is yet to live up to his draft position now with more than 250 MLB innings to his name but his poor recent splits included a tough outing at Coors Field. He has a 9.6 K/9 and he remains a capable option on the mound with four scoreless or one-run outings already this season. Veteran Sonny Gray is at an All-Star pace with a 3.20 ERA and a 7-1 record in 11 starts. Gray has pitched at least six innings with three or fewer runs allowed in four of his past five starts and he has a 2.52 ERA at Fenway Park. Conditions in Boston look calm Friday night and if anything, there will be a wind blowing in from right center field as it should be a good night on the mound for both pitching staffs. Texas did play yesterday but had minimal bullpen use while Boston had Thursday off to follow-up being swept in St. Petersburg with only nine runs scored over three games. Both teams have leaned to the ‘under’ on the season and are two of the lesser scoring teams in the AL this season.
