The Rangers were blown out Friday night in Boston as the Red Sox scored 10 runs on 12 hits. Texas only managed one extra-base hit and one hit with runners in scoring position in the loss, but the Rangers got away with using fewer pitchers Friday to start this series. The Red Sox are still only 11-21 at Fenway Park this season and the breakout Friday was preceded by four straight defeats. Texas has had recent success vs. left-handed pitching batting .309 with 7.2 runs per nine in the past 10 games and while the Red Sox are 20-30 vs. right-handed starters the Rangers a .500 team in games vs. left-handed starters. Jacob deGrom is still an above average starter with a 10.7 K/9 this season and he has turned in back-to-back scoreless outings in June. Ranger Suarez completes this pairing of former NL East starters and Suarez has been fortunate this season with his lowest HR/9 since 2021 even while his groundball rate has fallen to a career-low 36 percent. Suarez has been hit hard in two of his last three starts and over the past five games the Rangers have far better bullpen splits with a 1.13 WHIP and a 3.57 ERA, compared to a 1.54 WHIP with a 6.23 ERA for the Red Sox. Look for Texas to bounce back on Saturday after a blowout defeat.
