#906 Arizona Diamondbacks (Pfaadt) -110 over St. Louis Cardinals (May) 3:10 PM CT

Arizona lost 5-4 last night while going 0-9 with runners in scoring position as there were plenty of opportunities. Brandon Pfaadt has an average season line in limited innings but in three starts since returning to a starting role in late June he has excelled, allowing just three combined runs in nearly 16 innings in three NL West wins. Over the past five games St. Louis is batting just .183 vs. right-handers while the Diamondbacks have posted 6.7 runs per nine in that span vs. right-handed pitching. The Arizona bullpen has also been excellent in recent games with a 1.45 ERA and a 0.64 WHIP over the past five games. St. Louis as not topped five runs in any of the team’s past 11 games while Arizona pitching has allowed three or fewer runs in seven of the team’s past 10 games even with the Diamondbacks having to face the Dodgers and Brewers in that span. Three of four meetings in this series this season have been one-run games and while St. Louis won last night, Arizona’s recent results have been preferable and a huge two-out hit in the first inning last night proved to be the difference in the game.
