#961 Atlanta Braves (Strider) -110 over San Francisco Giants (Ruopp) 3:05 PM CT

Atlanta out-hit San Francisco 7-5 yesterday and had a 7-1 edge in at-bats with runners in scoring position. The Braves wound up dropping sixth consecutive game however with a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the ninth blown by Pierce Johnson, with original closer Raisel Iglesias struggling. Atlanta has now lost four straight one-run results and while the road record for the season is tough to stomach, the Braves should be in a better position on Sunday. San Francisco used three relievers Saturday with Erik Miller and Tyler Rogers both pitching in consecutive games. Camilo Doval has pitched in two of the past three days as well. Landen Ruopp has good numbers for the Giants, but he has allowed four or more runs five times in 12 starts this season and Atlanta will be one of the tougher lineups he has faced in his young career. Spencer Strider is 0-4 with a 5.68 ERA in his return, not looking like the dominant starter from 2022 and 2023. Strider still has big strikeout potential however and the sample size has been tiny with his last start in which he allowed five runs weighing heavily on his season line. Strider still has the potential to be an elite starter and the bullpen for the Braves has been decent despite the recent high-profile challenges. Atlanta’s offense has much better splits vs. right-handers in the past 10 games scoring 4.2 runs per nine compared to San Francisco managing just 2.8 despite the contrasting records for these teams. Atlanta pitching has allowed five or fewer runs in eight of the past 10 games while San Francisco has scored more than four runs over nine innings just once in the past 10 games. These teams are much closer than the season and recent records suggest as the market indicates, with a 10-22 road team favored over a team that is 21-11 at home.
