Free Pick: #902 Miami Marlins (Cabrera) -105 over San Francisco Giants (Wood) 5:40 PM CT

Miami ranks last in MLB in runs per game this season but the Marlins have featured an effective pitching staff and timely hitting has led the Marlins above .500 with a 6-2 run in the past eight games including three one-run wins. The Marlins are hitting .304 vs. left-handed pitching and Alex Wood’s 1.17 ERA this season has come in just over seven innings of work. Wood had a 5.10 ERA last season for the Giants in 26 starts and his command has been shaky this season with five walks allowed. San Francisco owns a 5.93 bullpen ERA and a 1.46 WHIP as the pitching for San Francisco has been a problem in a disappointing 5-10 start to the season. Edward Cabrera has average numbers in three starts this season but offered a great deal of promise in 14 starts last season with a 3.01 ERA and a 9.4 K/9. He has faced NL East contenders in his three starts this season and two of his three outings proved to be very effective. San Francisco has endured a grueling path of late with a lengthy rain-delay game Sunday in Detroit before traveling to Miami and last night’s late loss could add to the emotional toll watching a 7th inning double-play to seemingly get the team out of trouble wiped out by a pinch-hit home run. A few early season blowout losses weigh on Miami’s overall numbers, but this looks like a more complete team than the scoring so far suggests.
