#907 Washington Nationals (Gore) +110 over St. Louis Cardinals (Pallante) 6:45 PM CT

Washington took a 4-2 loss last night at Busch Stadium in the first game under new manager Miguel Cairo. The Nationals had an 8-7 edge in hits and an 8-5 edge in at-bats with runners in scoring position despite a fourth straight defeat. The Cardinals used their top four relievers Tuesday even with Sonny Gray starting and St. Louis is just 2-5 in the past seven games. The Cardinals have a strong home record but are a losing team vs. left-handers while batting .233 and scoring just 3.8 runs per nine vs. southpaw pitching this season. The splits are even worse in the past 10 games batting .208 with 2.3 runs per nine and MacKenzie Gore was named an All-Star with an 11.3 K/9 and a 3.11 ERA so far this season. Gore has allowed three or fewer runs in 15 of his 18 starts this season. The bullpen for Washington has struggled this season but over the past five games the Nationals have stronger relief splits than the Cardinals as St. Louis has allowed 35 runs in the past five games. Washington has scored 6.2 runs per nine and hit .281 vs. right-handers over the past 10 games and Andre Pallante has provided rather average results for the Cardinals. His K/9 is barely 6.0 while his FIP is 4.42 in 17 starts. Pallante has worse numbers in his home starts and his numbers have been worse each month since a decent April. The Cardinals are 4-0 vs. Washington this season but St. Louis is a losing team since June 1 with a losing record at home since June 1. The staff shake-up could provide a boost for Washington with the Nationals having poor results in recent weeks but also battling through an extremely difficult recent schedule. Gore is the superior starter, and Washington is the far more reliable offense in this matchup with the Cardinals really struggling vs. left-handed pitching.
