#921 Minnesota Twins (Prielipp) +110 over Chicago White Sox (Sandlin) 6:40 PM CT

The Twins won 5-3 in 11-innings yesterday to even the current series and break a losing streak against the White Sox dating back to last summer. Minnesota had the bullpen edge last night after both starters had successful outings and over the past five games the Twins have a 0.98 bullpen WHIP with a 0.98 ERA and a .156 batting average against. In contrast the Chicago bullpen has a 6.00 ERA with a 1.52 WHIP in that span. In the past five games vs. right-handed pitching the Twins have hit .306 while posting 5.7 runs per nine while Chicago is batting .186 vs. left-handers in the past five games. These teams have nearly identical season records, but Minnesota is 21 runs stronger in run differential and the Twins are quietly 7-3 in the past 10 games for a nice late May run, now just a game below .500 when most spring projections expected Minnesota to finish near the bottom of the entire American League. Rookie Connor Prielipp has a 4.03 ERA in six starts for the Twins and gives Minnesota a southpaw option in the rotation. Prielipp had great strikeout potential in the minors and so far, he has a solid 9.3 K/9 at the MLB level. His worst start was his last outing, but he has pitched at least five innings with two or fewer earned runs allowed in four of his last five starts. This is expected to be the major league debut for David Sandlin, an 11th round pick from 2022. Sandlin has terrific AAA numbers right now, but they have come through only 12 innings and walks have been a concern in his long term track record in the minors, now in his third organization in four years. Sandlin typically has high pitch counts and he hasn’t been stretched out to a starter’s workload this season, averaging just over three innings per start. That means the Chicago bullpen is likely to carry a significant workload in this contest and Minnesota should again be at an advantage in the late innings.
