#308 Delaware -2.5 over Western Kentucky 6:00 PM CT
While Delaware isn’t eligible for the Conference USA title in this transition season, the Blue Hens have been the latest team to make the FBS jump and compete well immediately. Western Kentucky last won the C-USA title in 2016, but the Hilltoppers have been in the championship game two of the past four seasons and this season are already 2-0 in league play and 4-1 overall. Last week the Hilltoppers held off another FBS newcomer with a narrow win at Missouri State. That was a five-point final with the yardage results close to even. This will now be a second straight road game for Western Kentucky, while also playing on a short week. Delaware was off last week, sitting at 3-1. The only loss came at Colorado, and Delaware won in its Conference USA debut on September 20, beating Florida International 38-16. Western Kentucky ranks 114th nationally in yards per play allowed giving up 6.4 yards per play, and while the Hilltoppers are known for offense, the Blue Hens have been slightly better per play on offense as well so far this season. Western Kentucky has a reputation as a quarterback producer and Maverick McIvor has been successful so far, Delaware quarterback Nick Minicucci has similar numbers as both have been among the best in the league at this point in the season. Western Kentucky is just 2-16 S/U as a road underdog since 2020 including a 3-6 ATS run in the past nine instances. A consistent Conference USA contender will draw support getting points vs. a FBS newcomer, but Delaware has looked the part of a team that might be among the best in the conference.
