#723 Towson +4 over Hofstra 3:00 PM CT
Towson is 5-2 in the past seven CAA games and the Tigers bounced back with a win last weekend following a pair of narrow defeats. Hofstra won in Towson 78-67 in early January but one of the top players for the Tigers, Jack Doumbia, didn’t play in that game. Tyler Tejada missed Saturday’s win over Hampton but with the week off he is expected to play today as Towson should be at full strength. The Tigers have good size and experience for long time head coach Pat Skerry, and this was a 16-2 team in the CAA last season. Despite the 5-6 record this season, this year’s defense is dramatically stronger statistically, ranking third in the CAA right now. Hofstra is in third place in the CAA standings, but the Pride are just 6-5 in league play and in four top 200 CAA games the Pride are 1-3 with only the win in this matchup over Towson early in the conference season. Hofstra is just 2-5 since starting 4-0 in league play and that includes losses in two of the past three home games. This is a strong 3-point and free throw shooting team but scoring inside has been a weakness while the Pride rarely create turnovers defensively. Towson projects to have a significant turnover edge in this pairing as the 13-8 edge for Hofstra in the first meeting was not in line with the season results. Hofstra is just 3-7 ATS in the past 10 games and this revenge spot for Towson should put the Pride at risk for another home defeat. Speedy Claxton getting this group to as many CAA wins as last season already is a nice accomplishment, but Towson remains the far more reliable defensive team in this pairing.
