#160 West Virginia –21 over Coastal Carolina 11:00 AM CT

Coastal Carolina was not yet an FBS team when these programs last met in a shutout win for the Mountaineers in Morgantown to start the 2010 campaign. Rich Rodriguez went just 4-8 in his return to Morgantown last season and expectations will be elevated for a return to respectability and a bowl bid this season. Oklahoma transfer Michael Hawkins will get a chance to lead the Mountaineers after playing minimally in 2025. Hawkins showed serious promise in 2024 before the Sooners had John Mateer and he looks like a good fit for the Rodriguez offense and is likely to be among the more productive players in the Big XII this season. Cam Cook also has the potential to have a huge season in this offense after rushing for over 1,600 yards last season with Jacksonville State. Ryan Beard takes over at Coastal Carolina after aiding Missouri State’s transition to the FBS level and he took most of his key staff with him as it may be a smoother transition in some ways, but the roster will be light on experience for the Chanticleers and there may be some growing pains. The quarterback situation isn’t settled for Coastal Carolina as three players have fought for position in camp with none of them on the Chanticleers roster last season. The offensive line for Coastal Carolina is also bringing back limited experience. With all the staff and schematic changes for the Chanticleers it may appear that the program has fallen far from the back-to-back 11-win seasons in 2020 and 2021.
