#631 Murray State +7.5 over George Washington 6:30 PM CT
George Washington won 92-79 last night against Middle Tennessee State, making 11 3-point shots at a 50 percent clip while also getting 19 points at the free throw line. Late scoring by the Blue Raiders made the final margin a bit lower than the Revolutionaries led by much of the second half and it was a nice bounce-back after losing Sunday to McNeese in this event in the Cayman Islands. George Washington is playing at a fast pace for Chris Caputo this season, but the offense is turnover-prone, and George Washington has allowed nearly 86 points per game on average the past two days as fatigue for a third game in three days could hit harder for this group, even with some decent depth and experience on the roster. Against top 120 foes George Washington is just 1-1 and that win came by only four points in the first week of the season. Murray State is 0-2 in this event, losing a pair of close games. Last night the Racers shot incredibly poorly from every spot and had 20 turnovers against McNeese for a performance that may go down as one of the worst of the season offensively for the Racers. Murray State played SMU competitively on the road early in the season and the Racers have won the games they are supposed to, with four wins outside the nation’s top 200. This is a transition season for Ryan Miller, but the up-tempo team will welcome George Washington’s pace, and this has been a good shooting team inside and out as well as at the line despite the poor numbers last night in a season low output. Murray State has great depth this season even if there are many new players on the roster and falling behind by 31 yesterday allowed the Racers to spread the minutes around and leave key players in good shape for today’s game. Murray State has good size for a Missouri Valley team and Murray State was -7 vs. Middle Tennessee State while George Washington was -10 vs. the Blue Raiders yesterday as these teams shouldn’t be valued this far apart, particularly in a demanding third game in three days situation and with the Racers desperate to avoid a winless trip.
