#916 Kansas City Royals (Ragans) -110 over Boston Red Sox (Crochet) 6:10 PM CT

Boston and Kansas City played 10 scoreless innings before the Royals escaped with another win with a 2-1 12-inning result last night. Kansas City is arguably the hottest team in baseball with a 16-2 run since April 20. The record has featured recent wins vs. Colorado and the White Sox but the pitching staff has been tremendous, allowing three or fewer runs in 10 of the past 11 games. The strain on the bullpen for Boston looks worse after the long opening game of this series as the Red Sox used eight pitchers compared to the Royals using six, while no Kansas City reliever threw more than 16 pitches. The Royals are 16-5 at home and Cole Ragans looks like a Cy Young contender with a 14.4 K/9 through seven starts with a 2.38 FIP. Garrett Crochet has also pitched well for the Red Sox to complete this lefty-lefty pairing, but in the past 10 games the Royals are batting .290 with 5.7 runs per nine vs. left-handers. Boston has averaged just 3.0 runs per nine vs. lefties in that span, with Kansas City winning 75% of its games vs. left-handed starters this season while Boston is .500 in those games. Kansas City has fantastic bullpen results on the winning streak including a 0.87 ERA with a 0.90 WHIP in the past 10 games.
