#903/904 OVER 7.5 San Francisco Giants (Roupp) at Chicago Cubs (Brown) 1:20 PM CT
There is a slight chance of rain Saturday with the wind blowing inward a bit at Wrigley Field, and as such there is a big adjustment in the total compared with Friday, with yesterday’s afternoon total at 10.5 in a game that finished with 21 runs. The Giants have scored 55 runs in the past six games as Friday’s outburst was the third double-digit scoring effort in the past six games as the offense loaded with stars may finally be waking up on this road trip. Cubs pitching has allowed at least five runs in seven of the past 10 games, but the Chicago offense remains capable even in a tough overall run since a great first month of the season. The Cubs are batting .282 with 5.8 runs per nine in the past 10 games vs. right-handed pitching for great results even if overshadowed by a .358 team average from the Giants in that span. Both teams have a team ERA above 6.00 in the past 10 games with the San Francisco bullpen featuring a 2.16 WHIP in that span next to a 9.00 ERA. Three games in Colorado contributed to those results but San Francisco has allowed six or more runs seven times in the past 10 games. Decent pitching conditions may be available, but Landen Roupp has been a hit-or-miss option with five starts this season allowing four or more runs. Like most San Franciso pitchers, Roupp has worse splits on the road and after a great first month of the season, Roupp has looked like the mediocre option he has been the past two seasons since the start of May. Ben Brown was a 33rd round pick in 2017 as he has never been a top prospect. His current 1.92 ERA in just over 51 innings is built on allowing only one home run, in a massive departure from the 1.5 HR/9 he had last season for the Cubs. Brown has worse splits at Wrigley Field in his career including a 4.57 ERA and while a slower scoring pace than yesterday is all but assured, this is still an attainable number for a pair of offenses with crooked number potential and two bullpens that have been overworked of late.
