The Titans nearly pulled off an upset of the Eagles last week. They took a 20-17 lead on a Joey Slye field goal with 1:56 left, but the defense couldn’t get the final stop, and Jalen Hurts threw the winning touchdown with nine seconds remaining. This week’s matchup gives the Titans a real chance to get their first win as New York is starting a backup quarterback and is playing on a short week. New York’s encouraging Week 1 performance was wiped out on Monday night. Jaxson Dart suffered an MCL sprain on the opening drive of a 28-6 loss to the Rams, and he may miss the rest of the season for a huge blow to the early season optimism the Giants had. The Giants were outgained 481-182 last week against the Rams, and the defense couldn’t hold up under John Harbaugh’s watch. Jameis Winston struggled in relief, going 11-of-27 for 111 yards with an interception and a 37.3 passer rating. He is an experienced option but is 36-53 as an NFL starter including going 3-9 since 2022. His top target, Malik Nabers, was hurt in the same game and may not be 100%. New York has a favorable schedule over the next four weeks, so it isn’t unreasonable to think the Giants can compete and they still hold a favorite price in the market this week. New York has covered only once as a favorite since the start of the 2023 season, however. Tennessee’s defense has shown it can create big plays, and Ward is making plays with his legs and arm with one of the better games of his career last week. The Giants can expect to struggle offensively and emotionally, and possible absences on defense this week are also significant, led by Brian Burns. The low total suggests a low-scoring game where a field goal for the underdog may be worth a lot with a Giants team that is 5-13 S/U in the past 18 home games.
