The Twins had a terrible game on Thursday with a 16-3 loss with six home runs allowed hosting Texas. Minnesota got through the game without using any key relievers and the pitching staff still has excellent season numbers. The lineup is back to full strength after a run of early season injuries to several top bats and heading to Houston should be an alluring opportunity with the Twins losing in the ALDS to the Astros in 2023 while Carlos Correa was a key part of Houston’s 2017 championship. The Astros are 24-13 at home and with Seattle’s recent slide Houston is back in a familiar position leading the AL West. Houston had to use its top relief options to hold off the White Sox last night as the edge between two of the AL’s top bullpens should be with Minnesota to open this series. The Twins have also crushed left-handed pitching of late scoring 6.6 runs per nine in the past 10 games and Colton Gordon has allowed at least three runs in four of his five starts this season, including all three home starts. Chris Paddack has a 2-5 record for Minnesota, but his ERA is down to 3.53 and over his last six starts his ERA is 1.85 with four quality starts. Despite the rise in the standings, Houston is scoring just 3.9 runs per nine vs. right-handers in the past 10 games.
