The Phillies won 7-1 Thursday in the Field of Dreams game between these teams but the conditions in Minneapolis look less conducive to home runs Saturday with Philadelphia hitting three in Dyersville. The Phillies scored only seven runs combined in three games on the last road trip and the lineup has big bats from the left side that can be neutralized by southpaw pitching. In the past 10 games Philadelphia is batting just .138 with 2.0 runs per nine vs. left-handers while Minnesota is batting .291 with 5.4 runs per nine vs. left-handers. Minnesota’s bullpen has far better numbers in the past 10 games to offset the edge Jesus Luzardo could have on the mound. Luzardo is having a great season, but he allowed six runs in his last road start. Connor Prielipp has a 9.6 K/9 in 16 starts as a rookie and he has turned in five starts in a row allowing three or fewer runs in at least five innings pitched. Minnesota didn’t play its best in the spotlight in Iowa, but this is a capable offense and an improved bullpen still playing for playoff spot. Since a great month of June, the Phillies are just 17-20 with great inconsistency.
