Detroit has been in the headlines this weekend with Tarik Skubal being dealt but that doesn’t mean the Tigers will stop playing well. Detroit is 31-20 since June 1 and while the AL wild card picture is very crowded, Detroit is only 2.5 games out of the final spot. Detroit has scored five or more runs in five straight games including outscoring the Athletics 21-7 the past two days. The Athletics are 5-20 since July 1 and 21-35 in home games this season as this isn’t a team that can be trusted to avoid a home sweep Sunday. The bullpen for the Athletics has a 7.48 ERA in the past 10 games as Gage Jump won’t have a lot of support even if he has another solid start. The rookie left-hander has solid numbers in 12 starts but his ERA at home is 5.24 and overall, his last six starts have been far worse than his first six starts and he has allowed as many hits as innings pitched this season. Detroit has hit .297 with 7.8 runs per nine in the past five games vs. left-handed pitching and the Tigers should get another good start from Keider Montero. With a 3.34 season ERA Montero has been a useful starter and reliever for the Tigers and he has excellent road splits. Detroit has a steady 3.86 ERA from the bullpen in the past 10 games and Detroit is 5-0 vs. the Athletics on the season, holding the Athletics to two or fewer runs in four of those games.
