#903/904 Cincinnati Reds (Undecided) at Washington Nationals (Cavalli) 5:45 PM CT
While the Nationals have fallen off an early season wild card contender pace, including going 2-8 in the past 10 games, Cade Cavalli has been consistently reliable on the mound. Cavalli has posted five consecutive quality starts and he has not allowed more than four earned runs in any of his 24 starts. The Reds haven’t announced a pitching plan for Friday’s series opener, but the rotation has been on a roll with at least six innings from six of the team’s past seven starters. Cincinnati pitching has 3.30 ERA in the past 10 games with a 2.41 bullpen ERA and even without an off day Thursday the Reds should have good options lined up, even if the plan is a bullpen game. Washington only used three pitchers yesterday in a 7-3 loss in Philadelphia and the Nationals have scored three or fewer runs in six of the team’s past seven games. The Washington lineup was among the more productive units in MLB early in the season but in the past 10 games the Nationals are batting .202 with 3.7 runs per nine.
