Free Pick Sunday: #907/908 UNDER 7 Pittsburgh Pirates (Contreras) at St. Louis Cardinals (Wainwright) 1:10 PM CT

The Cardinals broke through for 13 runs yesterday including 10 in the first two innings. St. Louis reached 13 runs with only eight hits, making the most of eight walks allowed by Pittsburgh pitching. The Cardinals have not been the same offensive team that they were in the summer run to the top of the NL Central, posting only a .645 team OPS in the past two weeks. In six of the past 10 games the Cardinals have failed top two runs with two double-digit scoring performances in that run boosting all the numbers in the recent splits. St. Louis is batting just .208 the past 10 games vs. right-handers and Roansy Contreras has provided a bright spot for the Pirates. The former Yankees prospect has a 3.72 ERA in 92 innings this season. He has made two decent starts vs. the Cardinals this season as well. Adam Wainwright will be making his final regular season start today and he has a 2.61 ERA at Busch Stadium. He has allowed only one run in 13 innings vs. Pittsburgh this season and while he won’t be pushed to severely today with the playoffs on the horizon, he should provide a decent outing vs. a Pirates team batting .214 the past 10 games. The bullpen for the Cardinals has been excellent of late and St. Louis pitching has allowed four or fewer runs in eight of the past nine games. In 15 games vs. St. Louis, the Pirates have averaged just over 3.6 runs per game and a much lower scoring game than Saturday’s result should be expected.
