#926 Cincinnati Reds (Abbott) -115 over Minnesota Twins (Festa) 6:10 PM CT

The Minnesota rotation has hit some bumps in the road with the injury to Pablo Lopez and a few recent poor outings from the usually reliable staff. David Festa has fallen into a rotation role despite having just 18 MLB starts to his name. Festa has marginal numbers in his career with a 4.86 ERA and while the strikeouts are there, so are the walks and home runs. Festa has only made one road start this season and it was a disaster, allowing eight runs including three home runs. Minnesota’s bullpen hasn’t been quite as strong as anticipated this season with a 3.74 season ERA and in the past 10 games the Twins have a 7.64 ERA from relievers with a 1.81 WHIP as Minnesota has allowed 10 or more runs four times in that span. The offense for the Twins has also failed to top four runes in all eight losses on the current 2-8 run. The Reds have a better record than Minnesota for the season thanks to a 7-2 run since June 7 and that includes taking back-to-back road series vs. AL Central contenders. The bullpen has been an issue for Cincinnati this season, but an off day Sunday helps while the Reds received good starting efforts in the last series and have had a starting effort of at least five innings in nine of the past 10 games. Andrew Abbott has put his name in the NL Cy Young conversation with a 6-1 start backed up by a 1.87 ERA. Abbott has not allowed an earned run in five of his last eight starts. The Twins have hit just .225 with 3.6 runs per nine vs. left-handers this season, posting only five wins all season vs. left-handed starters. The Reds have five more wins vs. winning teams compared with the Twins as well and after today Minnesota looks likely to slip back to .500.
