#928 Miami Marlins (Junk) -110 over Houston Astros (Arrighetti) 3:40 PM CT
After reaching .500 with a sweep over the Yankees, the Marlins have been flat in the first two games of this series, outscored 15-5 as a depleted Astros lineup that has been struggling has found some life. Even in a convincing 7-3 win yesterday the Astros used several top relievers including Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader while Miami used only 13 pitches from primary relievers last night. Spencer Agrrighetti has a 5.59 ERA this season and a 4.60 career ERA. He hasn’t pitched since early April at the MLB level with a hand injury, and he was hit hard in his recent AAA tune-up outing. Miami had won five in a row prior to this series, and the Marlins have scored 5.8 runs per nine vs. right-handers in the past five games while posting a winning record in June, July, and so far in August. Houston had a dominant month of June, but the Astros are just 9-15 since July 7. Janson Junk has been a bit erratic this season on the mound, but he has a 2.41 FIP in over 65 innings of work and Miami has won four of his last five starts. The recent bullpen splits are closer than expected given Houston’s reputation for a strong bullpen and Miami has not been swept at home since early June. Look for Miami to get back in the win column Wednesday afternoon.
