#461 Chicago Bears +3 over Minnesota Vikings 12:00 PM CT
The Vikings are 8-1 S/U in the past nine meetings in this series including the Week 1 comeback win in J.J. McCarthy’s first start. Chicago allowed 21 points in the final quarter for a difficult way to start the season in that game. The Bears are quietly 6-3 however even with a negative scoring differential after slipping away with another narrow win last week as this team does seem to have a knack for getting the job done even with suspicious overall numbers. Minnesota had the early lead last week hosting Baltimore and posted a massive per play production edge, but three turnovers swung the result. Turnovers have been commonplace for young quarterback J.J. McCarthy, and one gets the sense that a veteran offense that has been accustomed to winning in the Kevin O’Connell era is showing some frustration. McCarthy has a 65.8 QB Rating with more interceptions than turnovers while being sacked 15 times in only four games and just 108 passing attempts. That QB Rating ranks 44th in the NFL among qualified quarterbacks, or in other words, dead last. The Vikings are also the last place team in the crowded NFC North with a difficult schedule remaining and McCarthy has had too many mistakes to keep this team relevant. Caleb Williams in contrast has just four interceptions in nine games in his second season. Chicago is 4-3 S/U and ATS in the past seven trips to Minneapolis and the Vikings have just one home win this season. Minnesota does have better defensive numbers overall, but Chicago is quietly fifth in the NFL in yards per play for Ben Johnson and over the past three games the Bears have averaged 6.6 yards per play, second best in the NFL in that span.
