#913 Boston Red Sox (Bennett) +110 over New York Yankees (Rodon) 12:05 PM CT (Game 1)
Game 1 of today’s double-header between the Red Sox and Yankees will be a lefty-lefty pairing. Boston has been the much stronger performer vs. left-handed pitching on the season and the gap in the recent splits is dramatic with the Red Sox batting .286 with 8.0 runs per nine in the past 10 games vs. left-handed pitching. Carlos Rodon has good numbers in 11 starts but his FIP is much higher than his ERA and he has a BB/9 of nearly 5.0. His last quality start was in early June as he has only made just two starts since coming back from the IL and both were just four innings in length. Jake Bennett isn’t producing big strikeout counts, but he has very low walk and home run rates and his FIP is just 3.31. His ERA is slightly lower in his road innings, and he had a quality start vs. the Yankees in June, allowing only three hits in more than six innings of work. New York has a reputation for a great bullpen but Boston’s season numbers from relievers are slightly better and in the past five games Boston owns an incredible 0.52 ERA from relievers. The Yankees won 1-0 last night but Boston had won four of the past five in this series and the Red Sox had a 5-3 edge in hits and a 7-4 edge in at-bats with runners in scoring position yesterday.
