#130 Michigan State +7.5 over Northwestern 11:00 AM CT

Michigan State has won three in a row in this series, and this will be a focal point game for Pat Fitzgerald facing his former team. The Spartans are 0-3 in Big Ten play and riding four straight losses but last week the Spartans competed well in an overtime loss to Illinois. Michigan State lost only 27-10 at Notre Dame for a respectable result while Nebraska and Wisconsin both look vastly improved over preseason expectations as the early season path for the Spartans has been difficult. Northwestern is clearly improved but Penn State and Colorado have not lived up to their brand names this season. Now in the top 25 and facing road favorite pricing, the Wildcats could be at risk following back-to-back blowout home wins. Northwestern hasn’t been this significant of a road favorite in 2020, in a 29-20 loss in East Lansing. Northwestern’s only road game so far this season was the competitive 29-23 loss to Indiana. The Wildcats deserved credit for a great second half in that game, but the halftime margin deserved to be far greater than the 12-0 outcome that allowed Northwestern to stay in that game. Aidan Chiles will have a great opportunity back in East Lansing where he started his career and his improvement this season has been remarkable. Michigan State has been the far better run defense in comparing these teams however and the Spartans have one of the toughest strength of schedule ratings in the nation at this point as this may be an underrated team.
