Georgia Tech has lost three of the past four against the Hokies and the only win was just a one-point result in 2022. With a 5-0 start, the Yellow Jackets are on pace for a great season, though three of four wins have been narrow escapes. Georgia Tech is just +4 in scoring in ACC play while 2-0 and outgained in yardage in both games, and in three different games this season Georgia Tech was tied or losing inside of two minutes to go. Next week’s game at Duke looms as a key contest in the ACC standings for the Yellow Jackets as this could be a difficult game, even out of a bye week. While Georgia Tech was off last week, Virginia Tech suffered a narrow home loss to Wake Forest, falling short in its bid to go from 0-3 to 3-3. Wake Forest had nearly a 100 more yards of offense vs. Georgia Tech than against Virginia Tech with the Demon Deacons playing close games with both teams in the past two weeks. Wake Forest had a sizable edge rushing against Georgia Tech, while Virginia Tech had a sizable rushing edge against Wake Forest as despite being a 5-0 ranked team, the Yellow Jackets rank 100th nationally allowing 4.8 yards per rush. Kyron Drones has thrown three times as many touchdown passes as Haynes King so far this season and both offenses have been successful running the ball. South Carolina and Vanderbilt are quality SEC teams while Old Dominion may be one of the top Group of 5 teams as the Hokies endured a very difficult schedule in the 0-3 start that resulted in Brent Pry getting fired. The Hokies have had an FCS win and two competitive toss-up ACC games that were split since the coaching change. Georgia Tech has been a favorite of 10 or more points in an ACC game just twice under Brent Key and the Yellow Jackets didn’t cover in either game. These teams are likely much closer than the records suggest, with close games so far working in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
